Allentown Alumnae’s Day of Service – Bringing History Alive

Submitted by Tammy Jenkins

On Monday, January 20, 2020, schools were closed but something special was going on at Lincoln Elementary in Bethlehem, P.A. Allentown Alumnae Chapter partnered with this local elementary school and transformed the school into a living African-American history museum featuring sorority members and community volunteers representing influential and famous African-Americans throughout history as far back as the 15th century to present.

In keeping with the theme, “All aboard,” members of the chapter served as conductors as they led children through this incredible journey in history! The students also participated in service projects benefiting the elderly, veterans, the homeless and hospitalized infants. The day culminated with an African-American history-themed laser light show! It was a day of learning, inspiration, and service!
