Bronx Alumnae Hosts Reclamation Weekend

With Reclamation as its focus, the Membership Committee of Bronx Alumnae Chapter planned a fun-filled and impactful weekend of activities with the goal of welcoming inactive members back into the fold and providing an opportunity for members to fellowship and enjoy each other. While working to reclaim inactive members, it was also the Membership Committee’s goal to recognize and appreciate the Chapter’s Delta Dears. Being mindful to “give them their flowers while they can still smell them,” the Dears, both local and out of state, and both active and inactive, were treated to a meal and a gift from the chapter. Meals and gifts were delivered to each Dear by committee members (adhering to social distancing requirements) on Nov. 21, 2020.

Chapter member Joyce Howard, a Delta Dear recalls, “I am still amazed when I realize that I celebrated my 64th Deltaversary this [past]
spring. It was such a delight to have my younger sorors honor all our Dears by delivering dinner and such boundless love to each of us. These are the bonds that “strengthen in us, old and younger” as we rejoice in the lifelong sisterhood of Delta.”

The committee conducts regular wellness checks for all the Dears, including those who are inactive. Dears were able to then partake in their meal during the 2nd Annual Sororgiving, held later that afternoon. This event sought to bring chapter members together for food, thanksgiving, and fellowship. Having to celebrate virtually did not stop the show. With this year’s theme of “Dancing Through the Decades,” the group of multi-generational chapter members enjoyed jamming to some of the greatest hits of the decades. More than 40 members were in attendance and the chapter proudly welcomed back two.

The weekend ended with our Fall Fellowship. Members tuned in virtually to the worship service at the Greater Centennial AME Zion Church (Mt. Vernon, NY) on Nov. 22, 2020. The Pastor, Rev. Dr. Stephen W. Pogue, delivered a mighty word reminding those in attendance that they have “So Much to Thank God For.” More than 30 attended this annual Fall Fellowship and one member was reclaimed. Bronx Alumnae’s Reclamation weekend was a true testament of the “joy in our sisterhood.”
