Chester Alumnae Sponsors Credit REaDY Program

The Chester (PA) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated recently presented part two of its Buy-Back the Block Series: Credit REaDy: Building a Strong Investment Foundation.

  • Black families have 10x less wealth than whites, and this gap continues to grow?
  • Blacks in Philadelphia are 2.7x more likely to be denied for a conventional mortgage than their white counterparts?
  • A 2014 study of the impact of credit scores found that traditional credit score algorithms have a discriminatory impact on borrowers of color?

Chester Alumnae, in partnership with Dr. Roberta Hoskie, Rhonesha Howerton, Founder/CEO Creditmedics 101, and Kevin Lewis, Founder/Owner Premisien Credit Counseling explored debt and credit’s role in building personal wealth through property ownership. 

The keynote discussion featuring Dr. Roberta Hoskie, author of “Poverty Curse Broken,” was followed by a panel discussion consisting of credit repair professionals focusing on the following topics:

  • Building Wealth from Poverty
  • Getting out of the Poverty Mindset
  • Understanding and repairing your credit
  • Personal finance tips to help reduce your reliance on debt

This program was presented by the chapter’s Social Action and Program and Planning committees. To date it has garnered 1.2K views on social media!
