Chester (PA) Alumnae Re-Enacts Selma March

Submitted by Kamira Evans

On Sunday, March 1, 2020, Chester (PA) Alumnae Chapter, in solidarity with marchers around the country, held a reenactment of the Selma to Montgomery March of March 7, 1965, to honor and recognize the 55th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

Chapter members and their families marched across the Market Street Bridge in Marcus Hook, PA. Participants carried signs reminding everyone that the Power is in our Vote.

After the march, Desaree Jones, Social Action Chair, reminded us that when we enter a space with the intention of being change agents, we must do so with an open heart instead of a closed mind. Sorority members then held a moment of silence in honor of those who have come before, and closed out the ceremony with prayer reflecting on and praying for our ancestors’ courage and willingness to fight 55 years ago. The fight to voter rights continue today!
