The Membership Committee of the Rancocas Valley Alumnae Chapter decided that no pandemic would get in the way of honoring the achievements and work of their Golden Delta Dears. Led by Membership Services Committee Chair and Chapter Vice President Cheryl A. Lee, RVAC celebrated 15 Golden Delta Dears via a virtual Honors and Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020. While they were unable to be together physically, chapter members made sure that the honorees knew how much the chapter valued their experience and appreciated their ongoing commitment to Delta and its ideals.

The majority of the chapter came together and presented a program, capped-off with a special visit by Eastern Regional Director Rosie Allen-Herring and Eastern Region Delta Dear Committee Chair Gail Mitchell. The event was a mixture of fun activities and heartfelt personal remembrances and honors. The Golden Delta Dears led the chapter on a walk down “Memory Lane,” recalling some of their fond memories and experiences while also reflecting on the changes in Delta since their initiation. Regional Director Allen-Herring penned a personal letter to each Golden Dear, which acknowledged their years of service. She also spoke of the admiration the sorority feels at the achievement of this important milestone.  Committee Chair Mitchell shared the relevant history and meaning of the Dears, D – Dedicated, E – Energetic, A – Active, R – Respected, S – Sorors.

In advance of the event, each Golden Dear received personal deliveries from the Membership Committee. The delivery contained gifts housed in hand-made pyramid boxes with bows, which were opened during the party. Inside, the honorees found a specially designed RVAC Delta Sigma Theta Christmas ornament and a delicious cupcake that included the chapter logo. They also received a 50-plus year pin and a unique Golden Delta Dear sash. Those members with more than 60 years of service and commitment also received a symbols pin with pearl accents. The afternoon also included an amusing “ugly sweater” contest with relevant sub-categories, Christmas music, and dancing.

Delta Dears are imbued with a palpable sense of grace and dignity. The Rancocas Valley Alumnae Chapter welcomed the opportunity to honor this. The chapter’s Golden Delta Dears all have a thing or two to teach members of the sorority about enduring change and handling life’s adversities. This wisdom is part of their legacy to all.
