Two Potomac Valley Alumnae Members Named Maryland Sheroes for COVID Efforts

The Potomac Valley Alumnae (MD) Alumnae Chapter is proud to celebrate the recognition of two outstanding members by the Maryland Commission for Women. Judith (Judy) Taylor and Rachel Talia Watkins were named among Maryland’s “100 Sheroes” for their efforts to help victims of COVID. At its Centennial Summit in August, the Commission recognized women who rose up in solidarity for equality and worked to help keep communities safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

Taylor was recognized along with seven of her colleagues at Montgomery College for providing scholarships, technology, food and hope to thousands of pandemic affected vulnerable students.  She is the Director of Financial Aid for the college located in Rockville, Maryland. She has served as Co-Chair of PVAC’s award-winning EMBODI program and on the chapter’s Scholarship Committee for almost a decade.  Taylor is a Golden Life member initiated into the Alpha Lambda Chapter in 1976.

Watkins was recognized for her work with patients stricken with COVID-19.   She serves as Nursing Director at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Since March, Watkins has led a team of 70 nurses who provide exceptional, loving care to the patients. She is an active member of several chapter committees, including the Physical and Mental Health Subcommittee. She was initiated into the Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter in 2009.

The chapter is extremely proud of Taylor and Watkins, said Chapter President Alissa Bonner adding that they are very dedicated and work hard in their professions and for the chapter.

“It is an honor for a chapter of our size to have two members recognized by a prestigious state Commission that works to expand social, political and economic opportunities for women,” Bonner said.
